Maren Morris is opening up about her first experience dating a woman.

Morris, 36, came out as bisexual in 2024, a year after her divorce from ex-husband Ryan Hurd. In a new TikTok video shared on Wednesday, April 15, "The Bones" singer responded to a person's comment about her "bisexual journey," which she described as "pretty short."

The country singer explained that she was "briefly" seeing a woman who she told she was "not looking for anything serious," noting that she was "at a point in my life right now where just I don’t have that to give."

When the woman agreed to keep it casual, Morris continued seeing her, but added that "it was clear the woman was looking for different things.

"And y’all I’m not kidding, within three weeks of this completely falling apart, it was lies, threats to my reputation, and borderline extortion," Morris said in the video. "It was pretty f----d up."

"And for that to be my first experience, is just so depressing, and I was just like, I think I’m just really cool being alone," Morris reflected.

She then explained that she spoke to her lesbian friends about the relationship, which she says they described as "very normal."

"When you start seeing women, and one is going to like, almost ruin your life, like we’ve all been there," Morris said of her friends' advice. "You just have to like, push through. Is that a thing?" she asked her followers at the conclusion of the video.

In October 2023, the "My Church" singer-songwriter filed for a dissolution of marriage from Hurd, citing irreconcilable differences. The former couple (who share son Hayes, 6) finalized the divorce three months later in January 2024.

Morris has long been an outspoken advocate for the LBGTQ+ community. In a June 2023 interview with Billboard, she opened up about the more than 450 anti-LGBTQ+ bills that were being considered at the U.S. government state levels.

"The fact is, they don't have solutions for actual problems — this is their niche thing that they get to go off on," she said at the time of politicians pushing anti-drag legislation.
