Jessica Chastain delivered the drama at the 12th annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony.
Chastain, 49, attended the Saturday, April 18, event in Los Angeles dressed to impress in a strapless Oscar de la Renta gown with golden floral appliqués. The look complemented the actress’ brand-new bob that was chopped to her chin.
“Choppity chop,” Chastain wrote via Instagram on Sunday, April 19, sharing footage of hairstylist Renato Campora cutting her long tresses.
In a post on his own page, Campora noted that he gave Chastain a “fresh haircut” in time for the Breakthrough Prize.

Chastain is famed for her long red waves.
“As a child, I didn't want to be different — I wanted to look the same as everyone else because I didn't want to be singled out,” she told Refinery29 in 2017. “I was ridiculed for having red hair; for having freckles. Whatever you are ridiculed about that makes you different is what you'll celebrate in the future.”

She continued, “If I wanted to dye my hair, I could, but I realized that's who I am, and my differences [make me] special.”
Instead of dyeing her ruby-colored locks for movie roles, Chastain opted to play with her style via wigs.
“The one way to change my physicality is through wigs," she told the outlet. "Wigs are amazing because they not only change your hair color, they can also change your hairline and the texture."

As Chastain has grown older, she’s also learned to embrace her natural hair — gray streaks and all.
“This is my natural hair color,” Chastain told Vogue in a 2024 episode of its “Beauty Secrets” series. “The cool thing about red hair too is that it turns white, it doesn’t really turn gray.”
While speaking with Vogue, Chastain stressed the importance of “taking care” of her body.
“Taking care of your skin is an extension of taking care of yourself,” she said. “The goal is to look as natural as possible.”
