Shopping at big box stores like Costco, BJ’s and Sam’s Club comes with plenty of perks—including saving money when you buy certain groceries in bulk. But if you recently stocked up at BJ’s Wholesale Club, you’ll want to double-check your freezer.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) just announced a recall of frozen salmon sold at the wholesale retailer due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Here’s what you .

What exactly is being recalled?

Slade Gorton & Co., Inc. is recalling select packages of Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon. The salmon was sold in 2-pound bags at BJ’s Wholesale Club stores and features the Wellsley Farms logo and “Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon” on the front of the packaging.

Product details:

Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon, TBD (UPC: 888670025963)

Why is salmon being recalled?

According to the FDA, the salmon has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The bacteria was identified after being “found through a sample collected randomly by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.”

Listeria can cause illness even in otherwise healthy people. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), symptoms of Listeria infection may include:

Fever

Diarrhea

Vomiting

Flu-like symptoms, like fatigue and muscle aches

Headache

Stiff neck

Confusion

The manufacturer is investigating how the contamination occurred, so steps can be taken to prevent it from happening again.

Where was the recalled salmon sold?

The affected salmon was sold at BJ’s Wholesale Club stores in seven states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Caroline, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. If you purchased frozen salmon from any BJ’s between January 31 through February 7, 2026, you should check your freezer.

What should I do if I bought the recalled salmon?

BJ’s Wholesale Club says it is directly notifying members who may have purchased the affected product. If you believe you bought the recalled salmon, check the UPC number on the packaging to confirm whether it matches the recalled item. If it does, do not consume it and return it to BJ’s for a refund or dispose of it properly.
